Our
comprehensive range of advice services are quality marked to the
Community Legal Service Standard. We offer a full information, advice,
casework and representation service (including at court and social
security benefit tribunal).
These
services are offered by face to face appointment, telephone, home/hospital
visit and various outreach sessions.
Welfare
Rights Advice:
We will support you to obtain the social security benefits for which
you are entitled. These may include ill health & disability
benefits (e.g. Disability Living Allowance and Incapacity Benefit),
Housing Benefit, Council Tax Benefit, Income Support, Child Benefit,
Tax Credits, Job Seekers Allowance and benefits for carers.
Housing
Advice:
We will support you to get the most appropriate housing possible.
We will help you with issues such as homelessness, where your property
does not meet your medical needs, housing disrepair, and repossession
proceedings amongst other housing issues.
Asylum/Immigration
Support:
We can assist you in finding reputable and appropriate solicitors.
We provide information advice & advocacy support on housing
and financial support options with NASS (National Asylum Support
Service) or Social Services. NB We do not provide immigration advice.
Client
Services (Generalist Advice)
We will help you work out which services that you need to use. We
will then support you to access them. These may include our own
services or other services such as Social Services, Counselling,
and/or Clinical Nurse Specialist amongst others.
We
will help you obtain social security benefits (e.g. Income Support,
Community Care Grants) apply for hardship grants from charities
and provide you with general information and advice.
The Disability and Careers Service (DCS) is undertaking a review of “special rules” Disability Living Allowance cases awarded more than 3 years ago. This follows a legal review, a consultation with relevant care groups and a pilot survey of a small number of awards made more than seven years ago.

The Rights Payment Programme (RPP) is a new system of checking that your Disability Living Allowance (DLA) claim is correct. It was introduced in May 2007 to replace the Period Review (PR).
