Course Overview
The Personal Synthesis Programme (PSP) is a type of personal education that integrates cognitive, emotional, behavioural and social aspects of personal development. It focuses on cultivating personal competence's such as handling emotions, gaining confidence, making decisions, dealing with anxiety and stress, communicating effectively, forming constructive relationships, etc. The programme has been run with more then 25 groups in East London. The evaluation has shown that significant gains have been achieved in the areas of self-awareness, internal control, emotional maturity, optimistic outlook, confidence, communication skills and awareness of others. Also, greater degrees of self-identity and independent thinking, and a better understanding of peer, family and other social issues are observed as programme benefits.

The aims and content of PSP
The purpose of PSP is to empower students to deal with life challenges on their own and to be more competent in personal matters. To put it simply, it aims to enable students to be more in charge of their lives. This is achieved through increasing their skills, understanding and knowledge of various ways they can relate to themselves and the world around them. The content focuses on the basic areas of human life (such as thinking, feelings, decisions, desires, coping, motivation, behaviour, communication, etc.). These areas are organised in four main blocks related to understanding oneself, dealing with life experiences, achieving results and improving relationships with others.

Who is the course for?
It is mainly designed for young people and adults who may lack knowledge, experience and confidence to engage more fully in life. The evidence indicates that focusing on the basic and universal areas of human life can contribute to personal development of students regardless of their age (above 14), gender, nationality, race or religion. No prior education in this respect is needed, but some basic language skills are required.
