History of Positive East
Positive East formally launched on 11th May 2005, building on the legacy of LEAN (London East AIDS Network) and The Globe Centre.
Putting the needs of people living with HIV first, was the key to the new charity. A central theme to all our services being a principle of self empowerment:
- People, where ever possible should be independent and in control of their own lives.
- Our aim being to help maintain independence and not create dependence.
Our services were set up to work with people to encourage them to achieve this; which continued and expanded the tradition and ethos of the community-focused approach which both LEAN and The Globe Centre pioneered.
Initally located in four sites (Stepney, Stratford, Walthamstow and Ilford), Positive East has now centred in Stepney but moved towards outreach working, providing services with sessions at locations across east London.
