Join us and help us make a difference in helping us to provide a dedicated local community-focused support to HIV-affected communities across London. To sign-up as a volunteer, simply click here.

  • As a Volunteer, you will receive full training and continued support throughout your time with us.
  • We can provide a wide range of opportunities to match your existing skills, or help you develop new ones within the HIV charity sector. All we ask, is your time and your commitment to help us to make a difference.
  • Volunteers with Positive East receive a full training programme plus travel expenses incurred. Full details about volunteering opportunities and what we can offer, are in the enclosed Volunteer handbook.
  • Volunteer Forums provide an opportunity for volunteers to meet, share news and provide support. Meetings are on 23rd March; 17th May; 18th July; 13th September and 16th November.

  • Peer Support Volunteering
    Are you HIV+?Would you like to support other HIV+ through their challenges?
    Would you like learn new skills and enhance existing ones?
    Peer Support volunteering is an exciting new opportunity to use your own life experience to make a difference. With free training (two weekend training sessions) and regular supervision given to all volunteers. Volunteers on this project will need to commit to at least a year and will be subject to CRB checks due to the nature of the work.

  • Volunteering for Positive East Advice Services
    The Advice Services at Positive East comprise of three teams that provide housing, welfare rights and general advice and support to clients.

    We are currently looking for volunteers to join our Advice team, to support us:
      - To advise and to help clients to apply for charitable funding
      - Assist clients to apply for Community Care Grants (CCGS) and Budgeting Loans from the DWP, and follow up on any questions that may arise from such applications
      - Assist clients in checking through Income Support/JSA and ESA/Incapacity Benefit forms that they may have completed by phone, and where necessary helping them to fill in appropriate forms connected to these benefits
      - Assist clients who are not fluent in English to draft all forms of correspondence as maybe required
      - Assess and register new clients to the organisation using appropriate forms, and refer accordingly, both internally and externally

    Interested candidates will be invited initially to meet the Advice Services Manager to discuss their skills and experiences.

  • Volunteer receptionists wanted
    Be part of the friendly volunteer reception service at the Stepney Green site. We are looking for service users (registered with us) who want to be involved with the meeting and greeting aspects, amongst others, of people coming into the charity. We are looking for a number of people who can spend a few hours at a time during office hours ( 9am to 5pm) as well as an evening or some weekend work. If you have some or all of the following characteristics and a willingness to participate then we are interested in talking to you.
      - An ability to work jointly with other staff and volunteers and a commitment to working as part of a team.
      - Experience of working on reception or capable of learning how to run a modern telephone switch board
      - Experience of dealing with multiple tasks and difficult customers courteously
      - Understanding of the importance of confidentiality and ability to maintain confidentiality
      - Interpersonal face to face and telephone skills to ensure polite and courteous interaction with all service users, visitors and staff
      - Good oral communications skills which are effective and persuasive
      - Plan your activities using time management and prioritisation skills
      - Organisational skills in able to maintain the room booking system
      - You will be trained and inducted before being asked to undertake the face to face work

  • Facilitation volunteers - We need you!
    Good with people? Interested in supporting people living with HIV and gaining valuable experience? Positive East seeks lively, outgoing volunteers for our vital group work in east London. One year's commitment required (minimum). Training and expenses provided.

  • Are you an African man who cares about his community?
    Do you have time to volunteer? We need bright men who can talk to other men about sexual health in the community to volunteer for us in East London. Full training given, expenses covered.
