SUMMARY:U=U Community Quilt - Opening reception
DESCRIPTION:Join us on 23 April as we unveil our U=U Community Quilt. Drop in anytime\, RSVP is not required. However\, click here for event reminders. \nOver two years\, Positive East collected thousands of photographs submitted from around the world—from London to Sydney\, Gaborone to Sacramento—to celebrate the U=U message. These images come from people living proudly with an undetectable viral load\, as well as allies who support and champion U=U. The photographs are printed on fabric and arranged to form the powerful statement: U=U. \nAcross eight community stitching sessions\, 174 contributors dedicated more than 1\,200 hours of stitching to transform 4\,000 photographs into three expansive 6’ × 6’ quilt panels. Each individual stitch reflects the diversity and strength of our global community. \nThe U=U Community Quilt stands as a powerful reminder of the strength of our united voice—ensuring that every person remains central to the message of U=U. Each image amplifies this message thousands of times\, creating a collective statement that fully reveals itself only when all contributions are viewed together. \nThe U=U Community Quilt has been crafted with the same love and care as the UK AIDS Memorial Quilt. It allows us to reimagine the AIDS Quilt in the historic era of U=U\, while contributing to a growing and diverse archive of visual and artistic responses to HIV. \nWe hope that you will be able to join us for this very special evening. It means that if you are adhering to your HIV medication and have an undetectable viral load\, it is biologically impossible to pass the virus on sexually. SUMMARY:Living Well with HIV - 2 part course
DESCRIPTION:Have you been diagnosed with HIV in the last 3 years? The Living Well with HIV Course is an ideal way for you to learn more about HIV\, connect with others\, learn more about sex and relationships and understand about U=U (Undetectable means Untransmittable)\, and discover ways of staying well.  The sessions are delivered in a relaxed and safe environment\, by knowledgeable experts with lived experience. \nThis course will help you deal with your diagnosis and gain the knowledge and tools to live well with HIV. Designed for those experiencing loneliness\, low mood or declining health\, the programme offers tailored support that meets people where they are and helps them feel more equipped to face whatever life brings. \nIf travel costs are a barrier to you coming along\, let us know in advance. DESCRIPTION:Did you know we have a fully equipped spacious gym on our lower ground floor\, with changing rooms\, showers and lockers.  It’s free\, friendly\, fun\, and the perfect way to start your way to a fitter\, healthier you. \nTo use the gym\, you need to be eligible (living or getting your HIV care in East London)\, and have registered to use our services. Also\, it’s essential that you first have an induction session to assess your needs and show you how to use the equipment safely and effectively. \nInduction sessions are usually on the last Wednesday of each month\, at 4pm and 5pm.  If you’ve previously had a gym induction but it was a while ago\, or just want a refresher\, you can book for these too. You also need to bring suitable exercise clothing to wear for your induction\, or you won’t be able to have your induction. \nContact our Reception on our main number 020 7791 2855 to book your induction.

They are informal sessions which take place in a group environment. You don’t currently need to book\, although it’s helpful if you can let us know in advance that you intend to come along as the sessions could become very popular. Digital skills & confidence are the foundation of being digitally included. These days you need to know how to use the internet or technology to use public services\, work or stay in touch with loved ones. \nWe’ll be using Good Things Foundation’s Learn My Way resources on their free online platform that helps people gain basic digital skills and build confidence in using the internet.  Come along to any of the sessions – its not a course. DESCRIPTION:We’re excited to start a new service here at Positive East. To begin with\, it will be available for two hours on the first Thursday of the month and will operate on a drop-in\, first come\, first served basis rather than booked appointments. \nBodywork – Pain and Mobility Management Service at Positive East \nBodywork is a holistic\, hands-on approach to help people who want to move better\, reduce pain or just relax. It combines physiotherapy\, osteopathy and massage to relax your muscles\, joints and promote the body’s natural self healing. \nTreatments are outcome-based\, which means all initial appointments include a short consultation to discuss your condition and your goals. \nThis service is led by Blake (BSc Physio\, MCSP) who is a musculo-skeletal physiotherapist\, with a special interest in chronic pain and spinal dysfunction. He has extensive experience working with HIV associated conditions\, having previously led the Physiotherapy service at Mildmay UK \nAsk any of the peer support staff about this new service

DESCRIPTION:We’ve partnered again with the Good Things Foundation for this third series of sessions to help you gain confidence and skills in using computers. Digital skills & confidence are the foundation of being digitally included. These days you need to know how to use the internet or technology to use public services\, work or stay in touch with loved ones. \nWe’ll be using Good Things Foundation’s Learn My Way resources on their free online platform that helps people gain basic digital skills and build confidence in using the internet.  Come along to any of the sessions – its not a course. DESCRIPTION:Qigong\, pronounced “chi gong\,” was developed in China thousands of years ago as part of traditional Chinese medicine. It involves using exercises to optimize energy within the body\, mind\, and spirit\, with the goal of improving and maintaining health and well-being. \nThe sessions are led by Truus Jansen. DESCRIPTION:Ear acupuncture is a traditional Chinese medicine that involves very fine needles being placed in various points of your outer ear. Many people have found it can help with a variety of health issues\, include sleep\, pain management\, nausea and stomach problems\, relieving stress and anxiety. \nThe sessions are led by Truus Jansen. They are informal sessions which take place in a group environment. SUMMARY:International AIDS Candlelight Memorial Event
DESCRIPTION:Join us for this event – a time for London to remember the many lives lost to HIV and AIDS. \nThe International AIDS Candlelight Memorial\, coordinated by the Global Network of People Living with HIV (GNP+)\, is one of the world’s oldest and largest grassroots mobilisation campaigns for HIV awareness in the world. Started in 1983\, the International AIDS Candlelight Memorial takes place every third Sunday in May and is led by a coalition of community organisations in many countries. \nOur event is open to all\, whether you’re a client of Positive East\, or of another HIV organisation\, living with HIV or not\, or involved in an HIV organisation (staff\, volunteer or trustee). DESCRIPTION:Every Monday we welcome FoodCycle’s volunteers to use our kitchen and our cafe area to provide a delicious hot lunch.  This is open to anyone living with HIV across London. SUMMARY:Wellbeing Over 60
DESCRIPTION:We’re thrilled to be partnering with Globe Community Project to deliver their 6 session Wellbeing Over 60 to people living with HIV who are 60 years old – or very near to approaching 60 – over 6 consecutive Tuesdays \nWellbeing for Over 60 is a free programme that supports older people to grow older with confidence\, connection and joy\, and adjust to aging in a positive way.. \nIn small groups\, participants learn practical wellbeing tools\, build friendships and connect with their community. Designed for those experiencing loneliness\, low mood or declining health\, the programme offers tailored support that meets people where they are and helps them feel more equipped to face whatever life brings. \nIf travel costs are a barrier to you coming along\, let us know in advance. There will be snacks and refreshments provided.  We know that 6 sessions can be a big commitment\, so we ask participants to commit to attend at least 4 of the 6 sessions. \nFor more information contact mina.kakaiya@positiveeast.org.uk
