We have a wide range of volunteer opportunities available – but don’t hesitate to contact us if you have a skill or expertise which you think we could use! We provide full training and ongoing support to suit your needs and the role’s requirement.

Positive East is the leading HIV charity in East London, providing a comprehensive and holistic range of services to support and enable individuals and communities to meet the challenges presented by HIV.

If you are reliable, motivated and enthusiastic and are looking for something rewarding to do in your spare time then this role may well suit you. You must be able to commit to a minimum of one 5-hour session per week for a 6 month period.

You will be based at our Positive East office in Stepney, travel and lunch expenses will be covered. You will be part of a team working alongside other volunteers overseeing the day to day organisation of a busy reception service.

If you’re up for a challenging but rewarding volunteering experience, then we’d like to hear from you! We have a wide range of different shift times available, which also includes evenings as well as weekends. All our reception volunteers receive additional ‘on the job’ training for this key role.

To assist the Office Manager to keep all Health and Safety and Maintenance records up to date, walk around to see failures and record actions, undertake weekly fire regulation checks as well as weekly inspections of the property and its grounds.

    Skills needed:

  • Familiar with Microsoft Office
  • Should be organised and able to work on own initiative
  • Interest in Health and Safety is essential although qualifications not necessary as full training will be given
  • Ability to undertake small DIY maintenance tasks would be an advantage
  • Should be available one full day per week and able to commit to a minimum of six months
  • Fire Marshal and First Aid training will be provided

Our busy and enthusiastic partnership offers our community-based HIV testing in more venues across London than any other agency. With our charity partners, Spectra and METRO centre, we provide outreach and testing services in gay venues throughout London. Together we are the GMI Partnership.

For many, going for a HIV test can be stressful and bring up many issues and uncertainties. As a gay men’s outreach and testing volunteer, we’ll need you to help us make the test and the venue a welcoming and friendly place.

You will get full training from our team and you’ll be involved in helping to answer issues raised and administer the point of care HIV test.

Outreach and Testing with communities at risk.

Our busy and enthusiastic team offers our community-based HIV testing in more venues across London than any other agency.

For many, going for a HIV test can be stressful and bring up many issues and uncertainties. As an outreach and testing volunteer, we’ll need you to help us make the test and the venue a welcoming and friendly place.

You will get full training from our team and you’ll be involved in helping to answer issues raised and administer the point of care HIV test.

The HIV Prevention and Testing team are looking for volunteers to support with data input for an exciting new PrEP research study we are undertaking. For a couple of hours a week, we would ask you to come in to the office and support with data input around attitudes to PrEP use amongst underserved communities.

If you are interested in research as well, you will also have a chance to influence the programme design and get involved in focus group research.

Training will be provided.

If you are interested in administration more generally, there is also the opportunity to support with data entry and analysis and office management with the team, as well as quality assurance.

Our café, ‘Positive Eats’ offers healthy and nutritious meals is looking for kitchen assistants to support the manager, with a range of activities, including:

  • The preparation of cold food, hot food and drinks served during the lunch
  • Setting up the buffet and the seating area
  • Ensuring the buffet is refilled as needed during the lunch
  • Helping with the serving when needed
  • Helping with preparing and cleaning up the seating and kitchen areas

No previous experience is required but you need an excellent attention to detail, with a keen interest in food and takes pride in making and serving tasty healthy meals.
