Rainbow Men

April 16 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Rainbow Men is our social and support group for gay and bisexual men living with HIV, including men who have sex with men but don’t identify as gay or bisexual. This group is for you if you are HIV positive and either live in East London or get your HIV care in an East London clinic.  It usually meets on the 3rd Wednesday evening of each month, but this day and time may vary especially for visits out, so its best to check these listing regularly.

This month Rainbow Men is thrilled to host Peter Parker, giving an illustrated talk about his two-volume anthology, Some Men in London. Drawing upon  letters, diaries, novels, plays, films, newspaper articles, parliamentary debates, medical journals and  court and police reports, the books uncover an almost forgotten piece of history and provides a picture of what life was really like for gay men from the end of the Second World War in 1945 to the partial decriminalisation of homosexuality in 1967. Although these men faced prosecution in the courts and vilification in parliament and the press, they showed extraordinary resilience and created a vibrant  queer subculture in the capital, which was also reflected in the arts.

A delicious hot meal will be served just after 6pm. Please let us know in advance if you intend to come so we can plan for numbers.

If travel or care costs are a barrier to taking part, you need to let us know in advance. See here for details of eligibility
