Non-hormonal contraception is contraceptives that do not have any hormones in them. An intrauterine device (IUD) is a small copper and plastic device that is inserted into the womb. It works by creating an environment where sperm cannot survive which then means the sperm cannot reach the egg and fertilize it.
Diaphragms and caps fit inside the vagina and cover the cervix (entrance to the womb), and prevent sperm from entering the womb. Diaphragms need to be used with spermicide which contains chemicals to stop sperm meeting the egg.
External condoms are placed over an erect penis (and can be used of sex toys and fingers to prevent STIs) and creates a barrier between sperm and the vagina. Condoms are beneficial because they do not only prevent pregnancy but are also good at preventing sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
Internal condoms go inside the vagina and work by stopping sperm entering the vagina. They also prevent STIs.
