Shigella

Transmission: Faecal – Oral, direct person to person contact, or contaminated food and drink.

Incubation period: 1 to 4 days

Symptoms: Diarrhoea and stomach cramps, fever leading to nausea or vomiting 

Testing: Stool sample

Treatment: Naturally runs its course in 5-7 days in most people. Focus on replacing lost fluids – hydrate. If experiencing severe symptoms, antibiotics may be prescribed
